A must-have, but don’t get it from Autobarn

Autobarn sucks because I ordered this from them via Amazon and it said they were “in stock”, then about a week later I get an email that says it is on backorder. That really p*ssed me off, so I cancelled and ordered from Advance Auto online. To speak of the book itself–it is a must-have for any Chinese Made scooter–it’s not like the Chinese publish a Haynes Manual and you could understand the Chinglish if they did. This gives a lot of good information on how to do the regular maintenence and repair things on your scoot. It is pretty much the scooter bible.

I have rarely found Haynes to be comparable to a CHilton or shop guide and this is NO exception! It paints with such broad strokes that you will never see consecutive instruction nor pictures even under one topic for opne model it claims to “cover.”

Please don’t waste your money on this book. Blind is almost better!

Should You Buy a Scooter Or Moped to Save Money?

With so many scooters and mopeds zooming around the streets these days it’s easy to see how people live with high gas prices. It seems that these high prices for travel are here to stay, but rather than stay at home, many are resorting to cruising the city on scooters of their choice.
With so many options to consider, it must weigh the decision to buy a scooter or moped before making the purchase.
Considering that the purchase of a scooter to look like a crazy idea, or at least one that was designed just for youth, young minds, the idea to have this style and moped or scooter is becoming healthier.
Maybe that crazy gasoline prices, which leads to justification in our minds, or perhaps just the idea of doing everything in our power to put an extra ’s money, but it is, scooters are the owners of the road like never before minutes.
These gas-saving two-wheelers are much more quiet than before, but also, and they look more like motorcycles on skateboard on steroids. What fantasy Vespa efficient gas or sporting Honda or a Yamaha moped want, it’s usually an excuse to save money on gas, which drives the decision, but the simple pleasure of cruising one of these scooters around the city is the concept which seals the operation.
What should you look for in a scooter? Well, it depends principally why get one.
If you’re in the market, simply because they seek pleasure and you have more money to spare, you might want to check the Honda or Suzuki scooter there. With these motors 250cc scooter can exceed speeds of 80 mph, which I do not recommend these small road bikes.
If you want to buy a motorcycle just for those who were pretentious neighbors go green fluorescent CFL bulbs is out, then by all means, a power scooter. Not only electricity is much cheaper than gas, electric scooter, but technology has improved over recent years.
These electric scooters can exceed speeds of 30 mph and drive for more than 30 miles before having to connect again. With an electric scooter that is less than a trip to the station you have to do so is suspended, as well. And, of course, your neighbors will beam with joy when they see your little buzzing scooter to electric traction in your path. Honk proudly, have gone green.
However, if you’re like me, why you want a scooter, you’re tired of spending so much money for gas, and each action is welcome. And yes, the simple satisfaction of having a little ‘zippy moped is too good.
The essence Scrooges is able to store up to 80 miles before the junction for a gallon of gasoline. Yes, this is 80 miles per gallon. Not too bad, even if you are late for work. This reminds me, you want to give a little ‘more time so that we are going.
If you do not want problems with the registration of your scooter or moped, is to find a 50cc scooter that is in progress, because the law all that is good enough as a motorcycle would be. To avoid all evil document, a 49cc scooter.
They can be very quiet compared to the common opinion on them and have in their PEP step further. Everything that goes up to 35 mph is great. After all, the goal is to not go faster than ever before to go, just to get cheaper. Great book it starts out good with the begining listing all the basics, yes two stroke and then four stroke. My only dissapointed was that at least half of the manuel covers certain types of scooters. Naturally the most popular ie: Yamaha, Honda,Suzuki, and so on. If you fall into this category great your in luck and have a excellent manuel to refer back to as long as you own the scooter. Otherwise read the first few chapters take what you need then I put the book in my book shelve for future reference. The book seller went above and beyond the manuel was in great shape and I got it quickley kudos to him. As far as the manuel do more research prior to purchase unless it lists it has your bike in it.

Haynes Service Manual

This book is essential for the person attempting to maintain or repair their own scooter. When used in conjunction with “The Scooter Book” also by Haynes, these two books are pretty much all that one needs when maintaining and repairing their own scooter. To me not as readable as “The Scooter Book”, it is still essential to own as it contains the more technical aspects of servicing your scooter. It is a must have for the scooter owner determined to do it themselves!

Descriptive and informative, but generic.

I purchased this manual as a reference guide for my GY6 based scooter. The manual is typical Haynes, with many black and white photos, and fairly detailed instructions of common service tasks. The manual tries to cover 4 different brands, and many, many models over many years. It has most of what I need; troubleshooting, disassembly, lubrication instructions, and some helpful exploded diagrams. If you buy this book, be sure to have an original or aftermarket owners manual for your scooter as well, because you will need it. If you are already a fairly competent mechanic that has worked on scooters or motorcycles before, you may not get too much from this book. If you have never maintained a motorcycle, or are not familiar with the operation of CVT transmissions, small engines, etc., buy it.

Great for an overview of how to service scooters.

Despite the different makes and models of scooters, there are many similarities between them. This book takes advantage of that, and instructs you on how to service the various components generally, and not specifically; service information specific to a particular make and model is not given. For example, in chapter 10 (“Electrical Systems”) figure 7.1: “Wiring diagram for a typical turn signal system”. Diagrams specific to each scooter model are not given. The idea here is after reading the manual, you should be sufficiently familiar with the components of a scooter that when you service yours you won’t have too much difficulty, even if your scooter’s engine and drivetrain isn’t exactly like the one in the pictures. This does mean that there isn’t a lot of hand-holding; if you want service details specific to your scooter model you’ll have to buy the official service manual from the manufacturer (and pay the high prices).

The list of specific models covered by this book is derived from the “Data” section, where information (torque settings, bore and stroke, etc.) specific to each model is listed.

It would have been nice if time were taken to explain the operation of parts that are unique to scooters. For example, the variator (part of the CVT) is not something found on motorcycles and most cars. Chapter 6 (covering the transmission) explains how to remove and service the variator, but does not explain how it works. The addition of this information would strengthen the book considerably, as it would educate the reader as to the “why”, and not just the ‘how”.

The content is a few years old, and more recent models are not included. This is something to keep in mind if you have a recent scooter with an unusual engine, such as a Yamaha C3, which is fuel-injected.

One thing to be aware of is this book is apparently written for a British audience (Haynes Publishing is a British company). This means that British English is used throughout, as opposed to American English. You’ll see “spanner” instead of “wrench”, “petrol” instead of “gasoline”, “tyre” instead of “tire”, “renew” instead of “replace”, etc. This isn’t a big deal, but may take some getting used to. Reference section 18 is about the MOT Test, which is given in England and not the U.S.A.

In all this is a very handy and useful reference. Combine this with parts diagrams for your particular scooter (obtainable online), and you should be prepared to tackle most service tasks.

You will need your owners manual for specifications though, as only a few brands are listed. Manual also covers safety items,as well as tool and workshop tips.
